{"id":156,"date":"2007-09-19T12:00:33","date_gmt":"2007-09-19T12:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fwconsulting.com\/wordpress\/?p=156"},"modified":"2009-06-10T04:31:16","modified_gmt":"2009-06-10T04:31:16","slug":"framework-study-to-be-unveiled-at-hrmatt-conference-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fwconsulting.com\/wordpress\/2007\/09\/19\/framework-study-to-be-unveiled-at-hrmatt-conference-2007\/","title":{"rendered":"Framework Study to be Unveiled at HRMATT Conference 2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Francis Wade has been selected to present the results of the groundbreaking study, &#8220;The Trinidadian Executive in Jamaica,&#8221; at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hrmatt.com\/1content\/en\/training.aspx?articleid=128&amp;zoneid=24\">upcoming HRMATT conference to be held on October 9-11th, in Port of Spain, Trinidad.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The study, completed in 2006,\u00a0included direct interviews with over 30 Trinidadian executives working in Jamaica, and focused on the cultural differences they found while holding leadership positions.\u00a0 As the press has reported on several occasions, some have\u00a0encountered difficulties, experiencing\u00a0wild-cat strikes and \u00a0threats of\u00a0industrial action.\u00a0\u00a0Headlines were made\u00a0about the way Trinidadian businessmen\u00a0conduct themselves in Jamaica.<\/p>\n<p>A great deal has been made of the notion that Jamaicans dislike Trinidadians as a people.\u00a0 Some have said that it dates back to the days of the West Indian Federation in 1961, when Jamaica withdrew from the alliance, causing its immediate collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Others point to the fact that Jamaica is a violent country with one of the highest murder rates in the world.\u00a0 From a Trinidadian point of view, Jamaicans are often described as &#8220;aggressive&#8221;\u00a0 or &#8220;backward&#8221; and that this behaviour carries over into the workplace.\u00a0 From a Jamaican perspective, some say that Trinidadians are difficult to trust, and often rely on a level of informality that they find insulting, hence the\u00a0moniker &#8216;Tricki-dadians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The results of the study\u00a0shed some\u00a0light on the confusion and misunderstanding\u00a0that exists between the two cultures.\u00a0However, the study shows that when these dynamics\u00a0play out in the workplace,\u00a0Trinidadian executives can\u00a0be\u00a0both aware and careful, in order to gain the trust needed to operate effectively and profitably.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0New: Francis Wade will be featured on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadexpress.com\/index.pl\/index\">Trinidad&#8217;sTV6\u00a0<\/a>Morning Edition show at 6:30am, on the topic of the upcoming HRMATT conference.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the above press release\u00a0was covered in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadexpress.com\/index.pl\/article?id=161207893\">Trinidad Express<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Jamaica Observer.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>To receive a copy of the report &#8220;The Trinidadian Executive in Jamaica,&#8221; send email to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:fwc-triniexec@aweber.com\">fwc-triniexec@aweber.com<\/a>\u00a0and reply to the confirmation email by clicking on the appropriate link.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Francis Wade has been selected to present the results of the groundbreaking study, &#8220;The Trinidadian Executive in Jamaica,&#8221; at the\u00a0upcoming HRMATT conference to be held on October 9-11th, in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
